[Prerequisite: Beginner Studies]
This class is for the young artist who has successfully completed Beginner Drawing and/or demonstrates a thorough understanding of perspective and proportions. Students practice their drawing skills in black and white oil on toned canvas pad sheets. Still life objects are studied in exercises called “form studies”, under a single light source. Casts from antiquity will also be introduced. The student practices “the art of the start” of the painting process as well as longer studies. Participants become confident in the handling of paint and in the articulation of value structure to create depth and atmosphere.
The work created in these lessons can be used in portfolios for AP class and art college applications.
