Intermediate- Color Study

February 9 @ 2:30 pmJune 1 @ 5:30 pm

$300

Session II: February 9, March 16 & 30, May 11, June 1  REGISTRATION OPEN
[Prerequisite: Beginner Studies]

This class is for the young artist who has successfully completed Beginner Drawing and/or demonstrates a thorough understanding of perspective and proportions.

Students will practice painting exercises in the study of light key to strengthen your ability to recognize and mix color with accuracy.  A full 23-color palette of oil paints will be used [students purchase their own paints], and learn to mix the colors that they see in brightly colored still life set ups under a variety of colored lights.  The practice of color study ties in with traditional skill-based learning by enabling the student to paint in light key, the quality of all the colors in a painting relating to each other under the same light source, a technique employed by Monet. We use the Henry Hensche exercises practiced by Studio Incamminati.  Students will use one 12 X 16 inch toned canvas per day. Students will have the option to pay a fee for the 23-color palette of oil paints rather than purchase all the paints (See list below).  To purchase the needed palette, it will cost about $120, OR you can pay $10 per class ($50 for the enture session) to get the paints on your students palette for the 5 sessions. Feel free to contact Director, Julie Casso to discuss the options (703-232-1575).

About the Artist Instructor: Our long-time instructor, Michela Mansuino, finishes graduate school in June from Studio Incamminati, an Atelier for the study of humanist realism. Her awards are numerous, including the Maggie Price and Jack Richeson Scholarship Award, the Studio Incamminati Scholarship Award, and the D. Colman Witte Scholarship. Michela continues to teach at The Arts of Great Falls School bringing the graduate school instruction to her youth students.  website
